The Annual World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium

The Annual World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium is being held on the occasion of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. The Symposium is a contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals promoting “Education 2030” focused on SDG 4.7 as well as SDG17. It is supported by the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO and it is organized under the auspices of the International Olympic Academy. It is also supported by the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) and the UNESCO Chair in Intercultural Policy for an Active Citizenship and Solidarity – University of Macedonia, Greece..  The official language of the Symposium is English.

The Symposium is being organized each year since 2018 (in 2020 and 2021 the organization was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic). The Opening Ceremony takes place in Athens and the next day the delegations depart to Ancient Olympia. The Symposium is hosted at the premises of the I.O.A. . Its duration is 5 days.

2018

1st World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium

The Symposium was organized from 19 – 23 April 2018. The Symposium was attended by 180 participants from 12 countries.

2019

2nd World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium

The Symposium was organized from 10 – 14 April 2019 and it was attended by 170 participants from 14 countries

2022

3rd World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium

The Symposium was organized from 06 – 10 April 2022 and it was attended by 210 participants from 10 countries.

2023

4th World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium

The Symposium was organized from 26 – 30 April 2023. 340 participants from 12 countries attended the Symposium.

2024

5th World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium

The Symposium is organized from 17 – 21 April 2024.

The World Olympic Summer School

The World Olympic Summer School aims to raise awareness relating to the Olympic Values and to prepare the next generation of the Olympic Values Ambassadors. In the Olympic Summer School students have the chance to learn the meaning of the three core Values of Olympism: Excellence, Friendship and Respect. Focusing on Respect (the R-Project), the students learn the importance of respecting others, the world tangible and intangible cultural heritage and the planet (environment). The 4 pillars of the program are Education, Sports, Culture and Environment.

The World Olympic Summer School is promoting the Sustainable Development Goals focusing on: Goal 3 – Good Health and Well- Being, Goal 4 – Quality Education, Goal 5 – Gender Equality, Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, Goal 13 – Climate Action, Goal 15 – Life on Land, Goal 16 – Peace Justice and strong Institutions and Goal 17 – Partnerships for Goals.

it is hosted at the promises of the International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia.
